reason behind this blog....

WHYHOWWHAT..?
In this blog , one of my aims is to question various developments, find possible answers by cogitating partly...stimulate the thinking process
find possible connections between seemingly unrelated things....
Post selected videos, notes from the net.. that are thought provoking...

a brief history of me-self...
class 5 in school-drew a chart  consisting of  petri dish with microbes...
Got interested in evolution and biology in school... class 8 to be precise...imagine the staple NCERT textbook..
interest was kindled further in class 11..studied that chimps and us are related,,share 99% of our genome..:))
took up "microbiology" not "biochemistry" in undergrad.. somehow liked the  idea of studying bugs..got introduced to viruses..figured things not seen by the naked eye can be incredibly intelligent..was obsessed with them..especially phages..i.e bacteria eating viruses
took up "biotechnology" in post grad.. did not know what i was getting into just fascinated by the name, messed around with the TB bug, killed mice (both black and white)around 30 of them during postgrad research..scientifically termed "cervical dislocation"...will not get into this further...
played around with protein engineering of an HIV enzyme in a biochem lab at rutgers, NJ
manipulated hepatitis B virus genomes to figure out how changes in their genome affect their behaviour..this actually fetched me my Phd..i actually philosophized about why such incredibly small things could be so smart at survival...one possible answer: they just need to survive and propagate.. yep the "selfish gene"
currently... trying to figure out what to think and do next....
liked the emotional and historical account of -the emperor of all maladies... a biography of cancer... author has a penetrating intellect....admire sidney farber...imagine working in a clammy basement in boston surrounded by pathological specimens.....
the epigenetic revolution-nessa carey-compelling evidence for effect of environment on our genes...
currently reading the "blank slate"-steven pinker...genes, environment, interactions

interesting comments on anything are welcome..!
